A Note from the Archivist

In creating this archive, my primary goal has been to encourage a more holistic view of slam poetry as a genre that exists across the modes of text and performance. Some of my own scholarship deals with the relationships between text and performance in slam poetry, and this led me to discover that it's often difficult and tedious to find both text and performance versions of a given slam poem. I have found that many slam poems are publicly accessible in text OR performance records, but far fewer are publicly accessible in both formats. This makes it difficult for interested parties to explore and understand how text and performance relate to each other when it comes to slam poetry. This archive was created as a means to fill this gap in the collective, public slam poetry catalog. It is intended as a resource for scholars, teachers, members of the slam poetry community, and any other interested parties.
